CANYON NEWS: Take Two, Mary Beth Evans Exclusive - Part 2

By Tommy Garrett - Dec 30, 2010 - 11:52:33 AM

MALIBU—In our second part to Mary Beth Evans’s exclusive interview, the beautiful self-proclaimed beach girl discusses her work on the hit internet sensation “The Bay.” I caught up with the popular and talented star while she was on her way to the Rocky Mountains for the Christmas holiday. Mary Beth and I joked about her being too young to be a matriarch on a show like “The Bay.” “Initially it was a bit jarring, but then I read the script. Now I embrace it, Tommy. I get to work with Joe Lando, Tristan Rogers and Matthew Ashford, who I have known for decades, as we both were on ‘Days of Our Lives' at the same time. So now, I’m playing my age, so to speak. It’s actually very liberating. Women in Hollywood find it difficult to get older, but I’m just going with it,” said Evans.

DAYTIME CONFIDENTIAL EXCLUSIVE: Former GL, Y&R and DAYS Star Brody Hutzler Talks Unscripted Hollywood Dream Role and Going Gay For The Bay!

If you're in the Los Angeles area tonight, you'll definitely want to swing by the ACME Comedy Theatre (135 N. La Brea Ave) at 9 pm PST to catch multi-soap hunk Brody Hutzler doing a turn in ACME's Unscripted Hollywood Dream Role. I recently caught up with the easy going actor, who "angelically" romanced Michelle Bauer (Rebecca Budig) in Springfield, poured a mean cup o' Joe in Genoa City and helped a certain Fancy Face get over the loss of her son Zach in Salem.

Hutzler revealed how terrified he is about doing improv and how he hopes the rampant cancellation of daytime soaps has reached a state of "homeostasis". He also allowed me to attempt to pry some juicy dirt out of him regarding his upcoming gay turn in Gregori J. Martin's red-hot sudser The Bay. While Hutzler hasn't started filming as the soap opera's Kenneth Allen—a closeted gay man with political aspirations, who falls for a male nurse named Matthew (Thor Knai, see below)—he says he is looking forward to playing out the story arc.

He also shares a moving account of all the letters and poems he's received from fans of the recently-cancelled CBS sudser As The World Turns, thanking him for offering them a new soap home.

Martin then reveals what's coming up for three former World Turners, who happen to play pivotal roles on The Bay—Marie Wilson (ex-NutMeg, ATWT), who will appear near the end of the first season as the mysterious Claire, Dylan Bruce (ex-Chris Hughes, ATWT), as troubled golden boy Brian Nelson and of course, one of daytime's most beloved superstars— Mary Beth Evans (Kayla, DAYS; ex-Sierra, ATWT; ex-Katherine, GH) as The Bay's central antiheroine Sara Garrett.

WE LOVE SOAPS: Some Objective First Thoughts on THE BAY & Indie Soaps

An article requesting objective critique on the premiere episode of 'The Bay' has been posted by Roger Newcomb at WE LOVE SOAPS.

I have mostly seen positive feedback from fans who have contacted me and from what I've read around the web. That is a good sign for the show. The show was not perfect by any means but excelled in several areas, and some (aesthetics look like a film) better than I have seen from any other indie soap before. The cast is wonderful and diverse and interesting. I think they will only get better and gel as we see more episodes and they've worked together more. Mary Beth Evans is going to be terrific as the complex Sara Garrett. Other excellent first impressions were made my several cast members including Sandra Dee Robinson (Real Housewife of New Jersey-esque, Tristan Rogers (the police commissioner), Derrell Whitt (says a lot with expressions beyond the script) and Martha Madison (intriguing relationship teased between her Marly and her mother, Sara).

Once again it's all about the money. We offer wonderful sponsorship and marketing. Opportunity to all businesses World Wide. This helps us pay to produce episodes. If we don't find a significant amount of sponsors than unfortunately we can't continue to produce future episodes. Everyone has to make a living. As long as we have backers we will continue to bring you the ART.

Ilene Kristen Discusses THE BAY on Daytime Confidential Podcast

Ilene Kristen appeared on the latest episode of the "Daytime Confidential Podcast" and discussed how her role on THE BAY came about: "I worked with Gregori Martin before. We did a movie, Manhattanites, and it's kind of a natural fit because we've really worked together very, very closely before. So when that was coming up, of course I would assume he would ask me and ask other people who worked on Manhattanites as well. We had a very successful working relationship. It was a very ambitious movie. It was done on a shoestring and we had a really good time doing it."

Gregori J. Martin, Hollywood's New A-Lister

Gregori J. Martin was interviewed by L.A. Canyon News.

Filmmaker, actor and director Gregori J. Martin, tells Canyon News all about his new web-series “The Bay,” which is about to debut online. Just like maverick film directors before him, Martin reminds me a lot of myself in some ways, but more like one-of-a kind mogul William Wellman, who directed many of Hollywood’s biggest and most exciting big screen features in entertainment history. Martin may have dabbled in acting, but the handsome star is quick to say, he loves being behind the camera and doesn’t have a burning desire like most actors to be on-air. “The Bay” is very much like former TV series “Dynasty,” “Falcon Crest” and as Gregori reminds me, “I got a lot of ideas from genres like ‘Santa Barbara,’ but this series is like no other.” Here’s your chance to learn about a young man who is about to take Hollywood by storm, and his amazing new dramatic serial.

On Air | On Soaps: Mary Beth Evans Interview

On Air | On Soaps recently spoke with THE BAY's Mary Beth Evans about her roles in front of and behind the camera on the show.
I think what is interesting about soaps is that as actors we all think we are going to have these jobs for 30, 40 or 50 years. But in reality, you can be let go, or killed-off, or dropped off a balcony, and you get so devastated about it. But that is really the actor’s life, and really the truth of it.
